The Maldives – A Nation at the Water’s Edge

Seen from the air, it is first wonder. The world in monochrome blue, unless it is green, is flooded with the sun. Thrown as by chance from winds by a celestial sower, full handles of emeralds fell again in ring into the midnight blue ocean. Lagoons make the wave flush as so many pearls scattered in large atolls, huge corollas of a precious, fragile, vulnerable aquatic flower. Vulnerable, that's right.
