The accelerated melting of the “Roof of the World” represents many dangers for the Nepalese. In the next five to ten years, more than 20 glacial lakes in the country will fill with water. And under the resulting pressure, the natural dams will burst. It happened in 1985 when the lake of the Dig Tsho glacier burst through its moraine, releasing a torrent of water carrying with it debris, rock, tree trunks, and mud that wiped out everything in its path.
